‘No dogs and that’s final! Jeff had really wanted a dog for his birthday but Dad has the last word. It is Linda, Jeff’s young sister, who first puts the idea into is head. ‘A pussy cat wouldn’t dig up the garden,’ she tells him. ‘And pussy cats don’t bark.’ Pussy cats! But that same day Jeff sees the notice ‘Home wanted for beautiful black cat’ and so Clarence joins the Waters family and things are never quite the same again. There’s never a dull moment.
